Surviving You (2012)

I think that there was a moment
We both knew it’d never work
And if we would have owned it
I might be past all this hurt
But we did what children do
Beat a dead horse, put the blame on the world
Who knew that surviving you
Would metamorphose a woman out of this girl

As the nights grow longer
I feel a little stronger
It gets harder to remember
As we get closer to December
The chill will find me afraid and lonely
But so much braver that when you owned me

There came a moment when I knew
I had taken on too much
I could never forgive you
Cringed at the thought of your touch
And I did what the desperate do
Licked my wounds, prayed truth would remain unfurled
Who knew that surviving you
Would metamorphose a woman out of this girl

As the nights grow longer
I feel a little stronger
It gets harder to remember
As we get closer to December
The chill will find me afraid and lonely
But so much braver that when you owned me

The nights, they’re getting longer
And I am so much stronger
Who knew that surviving you
Would metamorphose a woman out of this girl
